Join Hands and Make a Difference
Sonal (name changed) is just 14 years old, a quite soft spoken girl. She works along with her parents in a brick kiln in one of the villages outside Bhiwandi. She works under harsh conditions day and night to make ends meet. The Karuna Project focuses on brick kilns in the months between October and May as they are operational in these months. The Karuna Team braves the sun, heat and sweat travelling long distances in order to conduct surveys and screen the labourers for leprosy. The efforts of the team in the last few months have been very successful in identifying many new cases of leprosy and Sonal was identified on one such visit to the brick kiln. She already has swollen nerves in her left leg due to leprosy, identifying her at this stage would save her from a lifetime of nerve damage, deformity, ulcers and related stigma attached to leprosy. Sonal has been put on a multi-drug therapy and the team will follow up with her progress and provide any other assistance she may need to continue her treatment and be cured completely of leprosy. Supporting the work of Karuna will give you a unique opportunity to make a difference in similar lives. Join hands with us by giving your money, time and talents to increase the impact.
