Partnering to help

On March 22nd the Karuna Project team in partnership with Lauren Information Technology distributed dry ration kits to a very needy group of transgenders in the Khar East slum community. The main occupation of transgenders are begging and prostitution and a few get to work in a social organisation we were told. Very few are able to work in other fields. Some said they are keen to learn Computers and Tailoring, however, they are very much under the control of their guru. The HR Manager of Lauren however, challenged the local NGO to not just give aid instead teach them skills to choose alternative ways to earn a living. This was our first exposure to the transgender community. We managed to distribute 85 ration kits.
