KRUPA
Krupa – Home for the Elderly in Nashik has been a haven of care, dignity, and compassion for destitute elderly women for over 25 years. Born out of deep empathy of its founder, Clara, Krupa began as a humble effort to offer love and shelter to women abandoned by families or left without support in the twilight years of their lives. What started with a single woman in need has grown into a dedicated home providing safety, companionship, and hope to elderly women who have nowhere else to turn.
Challenge
Many elderly women in India face neglect, abandonment, and poverty in their final years, often due to:
- Family rejection or lack of caregivers, especially when relatives struggle financially or emotionally.
- Health issues with no access to medical care or safe living conditions.
- Loneliness and isolation that rob them of dignity and happiness.
Krupa seeks to address these challenges, but space constraints, limited funds, and the need for trained staff restrict its ability to serve more residents or extend care to elderly men.
Summary
Launched in 1996, Krupa operates from a rented bungalow with a warm, family-like environment rather than an institutional setting. Currently, the home:
- Accommodates up to 11 elderly women at a time, with space for two more.
- Provides nutritious meals, medical care, and recreational activities in a loving and dignified atmosphere.
- Hosts celebrations, picnics, and outings to create moments of joy and community.
- Is managed by a small, dedicated team led by Clara, supported by project coordinator James Moses, a cook, and three staff members.
Over the years, Krupa has served nearly 60 elderly women, transforming lives through care, companionship, and emotional support.

Name : Taibai Yesu Garde
Address : Near Jail rd Taki , behind fish market.
Taibai was widowed in her childhood, before she could come of age. Her young husband died, consequently with no children & no one to care for her. She had been living in a hut, working as a maid in homes to earn her livelihood. She had some living relative though.
A person who was aware of Krupa thought that Taibai would benefit by being from living in Krupa.
Since she began living in the home she has completely transformed & has gained weight and sounds very cheerful & thankful.
After staying in the home for 15 days she wanted to return back to sell the remains of her tin shed people known to her were shocked & amazed wondering if she is the same lady!! They were full of praise and gratitude toward Krupa, its founder and workers!
