The Jyoti Project’s journey is filled with stories of transformation and resilience.

The Jyoti Project was launched in 1996 to bring hope and support to underprivileged communities in Lal Dongar, Indira Nagar, and Mahul. What began as a small initiative to improve living conditions—particularly for children—has now grown into a multi-faceted community development effort. Guided by compassion, Jyoti adapts to the changing needs of families, ensuring education, nutrition, healthcare, and emotional support reach those most in need.

Challenge

The communities Jyoti serves face multiple hardships:

  • Children often miss out on quality education due to high fees, lack of resources, and unstable family conditions.

  • Families struggle with hunger and malnutrition, worsened during COVID-19 when many lost jobs and income.

  • Elderly individuals and widows face loneliness, neglect, and financial dependency with little to no support.

  • Women endure stress from domestic and social challenges without access to counselling or safe spaces.

These deep-rooted issues of poverty, neglect, and lack of opportunity required long-term, consistent, and adaptive interventions.

Summary

At the heart of Jyoti Project is the Life Kids English ONLINE Nursery, an affordable and accessible learning program for children whose parents dream of giving them an English education but struggle with high nursery fees. During the COVID-19 lockdowns, the program successfully transitioned online, reaching families across Maharashtra and beyond. The initiative continues to nurture children through quality education and active parental involvement, particularly empowering mothers.

Beyond education, Jyoti provides nutritious meals daily to children from impoverished families, widows, and elderly individuals, offering not just food but also joy, dignity, and companionship. Over the years, Jyoti has extended help in the form of grocery kits, widow support, medical assistance, counselling for women, and scholarships for school children—ensuring holistic care for vulnerable sections of society.

Impact

The Jyoti Project’s journey is filled with stories of transformation and resilience:

  • Education: From reluctant learners to confident students, children like Aditi, Mihir, Aryan, and Aafiya now thrive in the Life Kids English Nursery. Over 35 children have benefitted, with 18–20 actively engaged today.

  • Nutrition & Care: About 20–25 children are served wholesome meals daily at the Kalyan centre, while 15–17 children and elderly individuals are supported at the Mahul centre. The project also cares for 5–7 widows and elderly people in Kalyan.

  • COVID Relief: Distributed over 700 grocery kits worth ₹1,000–1,500 each, provided daily food for 30+ children, and supported 10 elderly individuals for nine months.

  • Women’s Support: Assisted 18–20 widows monthly with ₹1,000 each, groceries, and medical help; extended counselling for women facing stress and domestic issues.

  • Healthcare & Education Aid: Helped 13 children with school fees and college admissions, and supported 8–10 families with medical assistance, including COVID treatments.

The gratitude of individuals like Fatima Shaikh, Renuka, Kasturabai, and Ashabai reflects the project’s deeper impact—not just in meeting material needs but also in restoring dignity, companionship, and hope.
