“Reaching the Unreached to Fight Leprosy: Your Support Makes a Difference”
Leprosy is a curable disease, yet the lack of awareness, along with the physical and social stigma associated with it, often prevents individuals from seeking diagnosis and timely treatment.
The Karuna Team is dedicated to overcoming these barriers by identifying, counseling, and treating new cases of leprosy. Over the past six weeks, the team has identified 19 new cases and educated the affected individuals about leprosy and its impact on the body.
All 19 patients are now receiving government-provided multi-drug therapy, with the team also supplying vitamins and specialized micro-cellular footwear to those with foot wounds or loss of sensation.
The affected individuals’ ages ranging from 8 to 30 years, make it even more vital for the Karuna Team to do everything possible to prevent them from enduring a lifetime of ulcers and disabilities caused by leprosy.
Your support for the Karuna Project of Stepping Stone Charitable Society is deeply appreciated, as it enables us to reach individuals through house-to-house surveys and medical camps in rural and remote villages.
In the coming weeks, the Karuna Team will also be training local doctors and Asha Workers to recognize the symptoms and identify cases of leprosy. Stay tuned for more updates on how we can work together to protect people from this silent but devastating disease.
